Or even non-retail? Retail is all I've ever worked at. I see these union workers in Wisconsin protesting and I think, "Wow, if anyone needs a union its drug store workers!" I just don't get how they can complain.
So I don't mean to pick on this blogger, but her post about how to deal with burnout completely befuddles me. Is that how regular people's work lives are? I don't have to tell you guys that me playing Angry Birds on my cell phone for 15 minutes would make for some apoplectic customers and coworkers. 12 hours a day and I don't feel like a single minute really belongs to me... I even feel guilty about using the restroom. Somebody might need me!
Is there any pharmacist who doesn't suffer from all the symptoms of "burnout" everyday? I don't think regular people really get it. I know union workers couldn't even imagine it.

Guilt in the bathroom: dont I know it. quick story: recently I had some surgery. Nothing major but it required a bit of pain meds and some muscle relaxers...which caused the foreseeable side effect of constipation. At work sadly I got a bit "stuck" during a foray into the potty and was delayed in getting back to the pharmacy. Apparently I am allowed about 70 seconds for bathroom visits because in the middle of my dilema, I am getting FREAKING PAGED by the tech for a FREAKING counsel! By the time my body decided to ACT, I had been gone around 5 minutes or so. When I got back to the pharmacy I said " Geez, can I even use the toilet?? did you think I wasn't coming back? Give me a break....
Anonymous for a good reason today
I know right. I own my own pharmacy, and we have a little soda fountain. I can't even walk over to get a cup of coffee (to bring back to the pharmacy) without them calling over there to ask them to send me back. I know they just are trying to seem like they are doing something for the customer (who doesn't want to wait) but Jeez-Louise, you know I'm coming back, its not like I ran away.
My issue, is with people who can't read labels or refuse too. I am called to the counseling counter for the, "How do I take this question", I take the OTC and point and read what it says on the package. In the mean time I have a line up of doctor calls and scripts to verify and check. If staffing were increased I would have all of the counseling questions screened by a technician first so as to weed out the stupid questions.
