My personal beliefs are no longer congruent with pharmacy practice.
Remember when we pharmacists used to be the most trusted professionals? This was before DTC Advertising. Before the conglomeration of Merck-Medco, and their eventual separation, due to conflict of interests. Yea, didn't see that one coming.. This was before the public saw Big Pharma, as well.. Big Pharma.
People trusted their pharmacists, because their pharmacists were part of their communities first. Pharmacists were less bullied and governed by the big corporations who run the drug chains, the drug manufacturers, and lobby the government for their own gain. Pharmacists had a degree of professional autonomy, which is fast becoming extinct.
The profession of pharmacy has been hijacked and stolen from us, the practitioners.
So, after much deliberation and weighing of values and beliefs, I find that pharmacy no longer serves my professional interests and personal convictions. I am exploring some other interests, keeping my eyes open for opportunities, and having faith that I will be shown the way to professional fulfillment and serve my community.
Someone once said there's nothing wrong with the profession of pharmacy, the problem is the job. Well, I think its a little more than that. Its more than I want or care to do battle with.

At some point we all wonder just exactly where we are on fulfilling the commitments we embarked at the beginning. Sometimes, with the body of accumulated knowledge afforded by our educated view, we wonder where best to continue to contribute in a way that does honor to what we've become.
I like to say here that the pharmacy practice is not becoming extinct, it is the interest of the pharmacists that is fading away. I like where you say that you have faith that will pave way for the professional accomplishments to serve the community!
It's not just pharmacy - this has been happening everywhere. Politicians, judges, doctors, etc., used to be integral parts of the community, representing the local interests. Now in a global market the customer / client / citizen 's welfare is less important than squeezing them for every possible drop of money that can be had.
